Art of the American South is the focus at the Morris Museum of Art, spanning from the antebellum period of the mid-1800s to works by modern Southern artists. Much of the antebellum art focuses on portraits of various individuals and families, with later art moving towards depictions of the Civil War and daily life in the early 1900s; other collection groupings include Impressionist paintings and an extensive collection of landscapes. The museum is on the riverfront in downtown Augusta, near the National Science Center's Fort Discovery and about a mile from the Augusta Museum of History.
